Helping at Home

* BE POSITIVE * BE PATIENT * BE ENCOURAGING *

Helping at home is NOT

  • doing lots of worksheets.

  • working to a point of frustration.

  • boring.

Helping at home IS

  • making connections.

  • asking questions.

  • having fun.

Listening to others read is also important.  This helps early readers know what good reading looks like and sounds like.

Reading is more than knowing what words say.  Reading is also knowing what the words mean and understanding what is read.  Asking and answering questions is part of reading.
